The African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Osun State has reiterated that it is not withdrawing from the Saturday governorship election nor working with any other party.
A statement issued by the ADC’s spokesperson in the State, Abosede Oluwaseun, on Wednesday, urged the electorate to disregard misinformation in the public that its candidate, Dr Najeem Salaam, has withdrawn from the election.
The ADC disclosed that the party is certain of victory and will not jeopardize its chances for any other political party; hence, it urged the people to go out on Saturday to vote for the party’s candidate.
The attention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Osun State Chapter, has been drawn to the deliberate falsehood being circulated in some quarters that our party has stepped down for another political party. This is a blatant lie and a desperate political fabrication.
ADC has not stepped down for anybody, and we will not step down for anybody. Our position remains clear and unequivocal: those who desire electoral victory under the ADC banner should come and join us. ADC is not joining anybody.
The party said its national leaders and the Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, have spoken with the people on the need to elect the party’s candidate as the governor of the state; hence, it has no reason to step down for any party.
The facts are already before the people of Osun. Our National Chairman was in Osun at the Freedom Park to campaign for our party. Our Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was also here to canvass support for ADC. Our National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the architect of modern Osun, has stood firmly with our Governorship Candidate, Dr. Najeem Salaam.
The candidate, Dr. Salaam himself, has continued his statewide engagement across towns and communities. These are not the actions of a party preparing to step down; they are the actions of a party fully committed to victory.
“We therefore call on those behind these shenanigans, falsehoods and politically motivated rumours to stop misleading the people. ADC is in this election to win, and Dr. Najeem Salaam Iwaloye remains the candidate to beat.
“Anyone who believes in the ADC platform and wants to join us is welcome. But let it be stated once again, for the avoidance of doubt: ADC has not stepped down, ADC is not stepping down, and ADC will step down for nobody”, the party added.
