The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) has announced the appointment of Sheikhna Faal, a former member of the Gambia Action Party (GAP), as its new national spokesperson.
The party said the move aimed at restoring disciplined communications and sharpening the party’s messaging ahead of the next election cycle.
The appointment, confirmed in a statement from the GDC national executive, follows a period of internal restructuring after a string of public-relations setbacks and factional disagreements that weakened the party’s public profile. Faal, a communications strategist with experience in political campaigns, will take over immediately and report directly to the party leader.
“The party requires clear, consistent and principled communication to defend our values and advance our policy priorities. Faal brings the experience and discipline needed to deliver a unified voice for the GDC across the country,” a senior member of the party told The Standard yesterday.
The GDC emphasised that Faal’s role will include coordinating communications from the party and managing rapid response to national developments.
“As press secretary, you shall serve as the official media liaison and spokesperson on delegated matters for the party, draft, edit, and disseminate all press releases, rejoinders, and official statements in consultation with the party leadership, coordinate all media engagements, press conferences, and interviews involving the party leader and the Executive and manage and supervise the party’s media and communications strategy across print, radio TV and social media.”
