Abia State Governor, Alex Otti has commended security agencies in Aba for not brutalizing residents who participated in a free Nnamdi Kanu protest held on March 12, 2026.
The governor also thanked the residents of the Enyimba city for conducting themselves peacefully and not resorting to violence.
Otti who was speaking at Government House, Umuahia, on Friday during his monthly media chat, said the Abia State government after getting information about the development, did everything to ensure that there was no breakdown of law and order.
He also stressed that the information his office got showed that the residents were not harassed by the security agencies.
“We thank the security agencies for not being violent against the residents. We also commend the Aba residents for being peaceful.”
On the reported activities of herdsmen in some Abia communities, Governor Otti said his administration would never tolerate the destruction of people’s farms.
He however urged Abia residents not to take the laws into their hands but to report to relevant authorities for necessary action.
“We are very intolerant to any herdsman destroying people’s farms. We also encourage the people not to take the laws into their own hands,” he said.
On the rising cost of house rents in Umuahia and Aba, Otti said he would not force landlords to charge low fees, as according to him, the influx of residents from other towns and the high demands for accomodations are major factors driving the high cost.
He however said that the ongoing housing estates his administration is building across the state would help in tackling the house rent challenges.
